They say you can't change a man...

...but I beg to differ.  I've made a breakthrough.
All my life my parents made us eat green vegetables, wheat bread, no soda, etc.  They were great examples of eating good, whole foods.  Some of this has rubbed off on me a bit.  I make an effort to eat lots of greens every day, good fruits, lots of water, and of course, always whole wheat bread.  I can't remember the last time I bought white bread.  I always prefer wheat to white.
So Dave and I don't exactly share all of the same eating habits, which is OK.  I'm fine with that.  But I try to sneak good things in.  He knows I won't budge on a few things, including eating hot dogs, drinking soda late at night or early in the morning, and eating Ho-Hos (which my mom always seems to provide.  Shame on her!)  So we were at the grocery store one night, and Dave wanted hot dogs.  Despite my aversion to this questionable meat, I said whatever and let him get what he wanted.  Cue breakthrough.  He bought WHEAT buns to eat with the nasty hot dogs -- ahah!!!  He can be taught!  So, so proud.

My dear sister Megan sent me a photo of President Hinckley for my birthday; I love it.  It is a more candid photo of the prophet I really grew to love.  I think one of the things that I will always connote with President Hinckley is his emphasis on loving and accepting everyone.  Regardless of faith, intent or class, he was adamant about us caring for others and seeing them as God sees them.
We received the latest Ensign with the new First Presidency on the cover.  I immediately -- and obviously -- noticed the difference in the picture.  I will miss Pres. Hinckley, but I'm looking forward to this new group of men to lead this Church.

Spring has come!

I love spring time.  I think it is maybe my favorite time of year; a re-awakening of sorts.  I love when the days start to warm up just a little bit at a time.  I love the birds.  I love the return of green.  And I love rain, too.  But another sure sign of spring that makes me so happy is when the SweetTarts Chicks, Ducks & Bunnies candy come back.  I walked into Wal-Mart the other day, and there they were!  Hooray!

Fierce, huh

I have to say, Christian Siriano's win on Project Runway last night was spectacular. Not only would I wear his clothing, but I think I'll buy the action figure Ferocia Coutura if it ever becomes available.

Dear Hwy. 40

Why must it take 60 minutes to get to work, instead of the intended 20 minute commute?  Please hurry!

Let it snow/sew

This whole blog thing has not come easily to me. As soon as I log in, I face the dilemma of not only what I will write about, but why is it important, and does anyone else care. However, this blog dilemma has helped me to not just notice, but appreciate the little things that happen every day. And today I've got two great things to say. First, after much research and deliberation, I purchased my sewing machine; it's fantastic! And two, it snowed like crazy today.

The first sewing machine experience was certainly one to remember. Of course it's normal to sew on Boy Scout patches late at night, after being at JoAnn's way too long figuring out which bobbin to buy, right? After the bobbin problem was solved, even Dave tried it out. Hah! Who would've thought?
And lest I forget, the lovely snow. I love snow days! And today it actually snowed. I mean, really snowed.

And despite her distaste for anything cold, I even think Lucy liked it.
